We must never forget the impact that calm can have on our hearts and minds, and the impact that it has on those around us. With ‘mental health days’ being celebrated in the press lately, employers are beginning to realise the importance of a happy and healthy workforce. It’s not completely their responsibility however; you should always have your health and wellbeing in mind.

Take a break

Such a simple idea and yet often skipped during a busy workday.

There is always time for you to take 5 minutes, just 5 minutes away from your desk or workspace everyday. Of course, you should aim for more than this and no one is that productive to work for a complete 8 hours straight without a moment to breathe.

Eat your lunch away from your desk

Give your eyes and your mind a break. A lot of companies have soft policies in place to encourage employees to eat away from their desks and in a communal area. This is hugely important both for the mind and overall productivity.

Take deep breaths

Another simple remedy that we often forget, deep breaths are a great way to regain control when feeling stressed or anxious. Deep breathing works to release toxins and tension. Whenever you have a moment of anxiety or before you take on another task on your to-do list, take a deep breath first. Take a deep breath into the abdomen for as long as you can, hold for a moment and gently exhale. Hold again, before repeating the cycle.

Treat yourself to an office plant

Peace lilies are great for the office, not only do they brighten up the space, they also work to clean the air in the room they’re in! Being close to nature is essential for the mind, and having a home or office with plants in is a great way to ensure you are always connected. If you can’t commit to keeping real plants, art can often have a similar effect.

Stay hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is a great remedy for many things, and our minds are no exception. Our brains need constant hydration to function at their best. It’s very easy to forget to fuel our bodies when the days become increasingly busier, however forgetting about your body can cause headaches or worse.

Share

A problem shared is a problem halved. It’s often said that finding friends in the workplace dramatically improves how you feel when working there. You alone do not have all the answers, so by sharing a problem or asking for an opinion of a trusted colleague it not only allows you to express yourself, you may also reach a solution. Bottling up a problem gives it power. Don’t allow negative thoughts to multiply.

Balance

It’s also important to ensure that you have something to look forward to when you leave the workplace, or finish up for the day. Yes, you should ensure you turn off everyday at some point!

Meditation is a great tool to clear your mind and take that essential ‘me time’ you deserve. We offer a wide variety of sessions and services to help provide balance and restore energy. The happier and healthier you are, the more productive you will be in all your endeavours – including your work.
